LAVA announces second festival

After a well received first year, LAVA Music Festival will return to the Suffolk Executive Airport this May for a two-day event.
“We want LAVA to become an experience and a destination, more than just a one-day event,” said Justin Billcheck, the producer and promoter of the festival.
The festival will add the opportunity to camp overnight at the site for this year’s festival. Last year’s inaugural festival, held on May 16, was a Saturday-only affair. This year’s event is set for May 27-28.
A variety of packages are available, including tent camping, RVs and “glamping” from Solid Ground Shelters, which offers pop-up luxury camping.
“Adding camping and extending through the weekend is a great way to continue to grow the festival and offer live music fans in the area an opportunity to experience a summer music festival without having to travel to other regions of the country.”
Festival organizers do not plan to announce the band lineup until Jan. 25. Last year’s acts included the Los Angeles, Calif.-based Fitz and the Tantrums; Georgia-based Of Montreal; Mutemath; Tokyo Police Club; Robert DeLong; Kishi Bashi; Cloud Nothings; A Great Big Pile of Leaves; and two Norfolk-based bands, Major and the Monbacks and Wyteshayds.
A launch party is set for Jan. 21 at WorkRelease in Norfolk. Tickets are available for purchase starting on Jan. 25.
