Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Makayla Dickens, sophomore for Lakeland High School basketball: She put together a week that proved a strong illustration of what she can do for the Lady Cavaliers. Despite their 66-62 Friday home loss to Grassfield High School, she had a team-high 26 points to go with seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. In Tuesday’s 59-35 win at Hickory High School, she had 18 points, nine boards and two assists.
- Rontre Pope, sophomore for King’s Fork High School basketball: Bulldogs coach Josh Worrell praised him for his consistency in playing without mental lapses. In the Bulldogs’ 60-55 Friday home win over Nansemond River High School, he led his team with 14 points to go with six boards. Despite a 49-41 loss to host Grassfield High School on Tuesday, he led his team with 13 points, adding eight rebounds.
