BayPort Credit Union recently sponsored 16 local high school financial education teachers to attend Jump$tart, a National Financial Educator conference held in National Harbor, Md.

“Jump$tart National Educator Conference is an opportunity for classroom teachers to network and gain resources that are dedicated to personal finance education,” BayPort President and Chief Executive Officer George Dudley said. “This experience gives the teachers a tool to take into the future that can help educate and inspire their students.”

Charlotte Stowers, a Jamestown High School teacher who attended, talked about the experience.

“Being able to network with other teachers and adults in the economic and personal finance career field was tremendous. I was able to learn how other teachers taught particular content and was able to learn from professionals about resources which are available for me to share with my students. It certainly was the best conference I’ve ever attended. Without BayPort Credit Union’s financial assistance, I would not have been able to attend the conference.”

BayPort, which has branch locations in Newport News, Hampton, Grafton, Gloucester, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Smithfield, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach, has sponsored local teachers to attend the conference for the past seven years.
