Cecil Yates Hayes

HAMPTON — Cecil Yates Hayes, 81, passed Nov. 22, 2015. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Harry and Nettie Hayes.

Cecil worked for 40 years for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. Living in Suffolk until his late 20s, he then moved to Hampton Roads and lived there the remainder of his life. He loved fishing, playing cards, and was a fan of NASCAR and Western movies. Cecil is predeceased by sister, Betty Bell, and grandson, Anthony Seawell.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Rudolph Hayes (Donna); children, Kathryn Roddenberry, Ellen Hayes Poe (John), Carolyn Clowers (Wayne), Connie Humphrey and Dan Rawles; seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as his dear friend, Virginia Richmond.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. with the Rev. Jerry McCloud officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.RWBakerFH.com.
