Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

 

Tyquan Holloman, freshman for Lakeland High School football: He helped lead the Cavaliers to their first playoff victory since 2012, using his arm, legs and mind to topple No. 3 Park View High School 21-14 on Friday night in South Hill. Among his heroics was an approximately 80-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Alajuwun Langston that gave his team a 21-7 lead in the third quarter.

Chandler Bergeron, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy cross country: She was a standout at the conference level and proved a standout at the state level on Friday during the Virginia Independent Schools state cross country championships. She placed sixth out of 216 female runners, helping the Lady Saints take fourth out of 22 teams.

 

Deshaun Wethington, senior for King’s Fork High School football: He had a massive impact for the Bulldogs when they needed him most, helping drive them to a 42-36 playoff victory on Friday night against visiting Smithfield High School. He carried the ball 32 times for 250 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 7.8 yards per carry.
