Work on downtown railroad crossings will affect traffic during the next two weeks.

Norfolk Southern will make crossing upgrades at Wellons and Liberty streets, which will require complete shutdown of the roads at the affected crossings, according to a city press release.

Wellons Street will be closed beginning on the morning of Nov. 9 and is expected to reopen on the evening of Nov. 12.

Liberty Street will be closed between Bank and East Washington streets Nov. 16-19 on a similar schedule.

Truck traffic will be detoured to East Washington Street and Nansemond Parkway during the closure, according to the city press release.

The scheduled work is weather dependent, so it could be affected by inclement weather.

Norfolk Southern is doing all of the work, but Suffolk Public Works is providing assistance with the detours.
