A single vehicle accident in the 6200 block of Whaleyville Boulevard sent a woman to the hospital Monday morning.

The crash was reported at 5:54 a.m., according to a city press release. The preliminary investigation found the Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and struck a concrete culvert. The adult female was taken to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The roadway was initially closed in both directions due to a fuel spill related to the accident. Crews from Public Works also responded. Traffic was then alternated, and the roadway reopened at 7:20 a.m.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
