Jean Hurley Draper

Jean Hurley Draper, 80, passed away on Sept. 29, 2015, in her home, surrounded by family members.

A native of Suffolk, Jean was born to the late George Francis Hurley and Mary Frances Bryant Hurley. She was predeceased by her brother, George F. Hurley Jr., and sister, Patricia Hurley Davis.

Jean was dedicated to her family, her profession as a registered nurse and First Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, taught children’s choir and volunteered in the church library for 31 years.

Jean is survived by her husband of 58 years, C. Merritt Draper Sr.; son C. Merritt Draper Jr.; daughters, Susan L. Draper, Sandy Young (Gregg), Janet Sutter (Andy) and Joyce Downs (David); grandchildren, Savannah and Susan Draper, Dillon Draper, Cody and Taylor Young, Zach and Josh Sutter and Jackson Downs; and sister, Nancy Barnes (Carson).

A funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St. in Suffolk, with burial to follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St.
