Dr. Anthony M. Bevilacqua, known as “Dr. Bev” to his patients, has completed training and received certification from Smith & Nephew Inc. to perform bi-compartmental knee arthroplasty utilizing the Journey Deuce Bi-Compartmental Knee System, or “Deuce” partial knee replacement.
Dr. Bevilacqua, a specialist in sports medicine and joint replacement with Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Suffolk, is a graduate of Midwestern University in Chicago and completed orthopaedic surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
He served active duty in the Army from 1991 to 2005 and was Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehab Services at Martin Army Hospital, which serves the Fort Benning community, the Airborne School, 75th Rangers and multiple other units essential to the Army’s mission.
This breakthrough implant allows replacement of arthritic tissues, while maintaining all the knee’s ligaments and providing a more “normal feeling” knee. The device has an oxinium surface, which has proven to show tremendously less wear than traditional implants.
Many patients who would normally receive a total knee replacement may benefit from this less-invasive and more physiologic surgery, especially younger, active patients or those with less-advanced arthritis.
Since 1983, Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center has been recognized as one of the leading total-care orthopaedic centers in southeastern Virginia. With offices in Chesapeake and Suffolk, and more than 50 medical professionals and employees, they have helped thousands of patients suffering from a variety of bone and soft-tissue injuries, diseases, and deformities by consistently providing the finest in diagnostic services, surgical and non-surgical treatments.
