Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Noah Giles, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He did not need many touches to score a myriad of points in the Saints’ 84-12 decimation of visiting Fredericksburg Christian School on Friday. He finished the game with six carries for 188 yards, four touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. He also had a kickoff return for 43 yards.
  • Claire Janek, senior for Nansemond River High School field hockey: She was instrumental in helping the Lady Warriors achieve a 2-0 week and improve to 5-1 on the season. She scored two goals in Thursday’s conference opener for NR, a 5-0 road win against Bethel High School, and she also scored a goal in Wednesday’s 3-1 home victory against Western Branch High School.
  • Deshaun Wethington, senior for King’s Fork High School football: After missing the season opener due to injury, he quickly made up for lost time on Friday night. On his second carry, he ran for a 73-yard touchdown, and on his third carry, he scored from 35 yards out. He led the Bulldogs to a 41-0 home win over Hickory High School, finishing the game with 12 carries for 183 yards.
