Chester “Gill” Wayne Langston, 67, of 201 Fort Worth St., Hampton, transitioned on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at his residence. He is the son of Ethel J. Collins-Langston and the late Henry Langston Jr. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering technology from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Hampton University. He was employed with the Department of the Army and NASA for 31 years and retired in 2012. He received recognition for contribution to the first and second flights of the space shuttle Columbia. He was a member of Gamma Epsilon Theta and a coach and mentor for the Robotics Team Triple Helix for Menchville High School.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ethel J. Collins-Langston; longtime friend, Doris L. James; six sisters, Gloria Jean Collins-Jackson (Christian), Marrix Paulette Langston, of Randallstown, Md., Shelia Langston-Johnson (Alvin Sr.), of Windsor, Md., Deborah Collins Farrow (Douglas), of Ahoskie, N.C., Sandra Maxine Knight (Thomas Sr.), and Ernell LaDonna Langston, both of Suffolk; four brothers, Lloyd Henry Langston, of Suffolk, Guy Anthony Langston (Celestine), of Jonesboro, Ga., Micheal Javan Langston (Sandra), of Aberdeen, Md., and Neil Elroy Langston, of Lilburn, Ga.; four aunts, Margaret Picott, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Annie Wiggins, Ruby Edwards and Evelyn Collins; uncle, William Collins, of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

A visitation with family will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at Palm Tree Baptist Church, 8165 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23438. The Rev. Anthony Sommerville will deliver the eulogy.
