A woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle on West Washington Street.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink said in a press release that the accident happened at 12:31 p.m. at the intersection of West Washington Street and South Street. The woman, an elderly female, was struck by a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, which remained at the scene.

The woman was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by ground ambulance, as Nightingale was not available.

A portion of the roadway was closed as police investigated the accident.
