Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
Morgan Morrell, sophomore for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy field hockey: She helped her team go 2-0 last week with key offensive input. She contributed a goal to Tuesday’s 2-1 road win over Hampton Roads Academy and then scored twice against Christchurch School on Thursday to help the Lady Saints achieve a 4-2 home victory.
Jaclyn Mounie, senior for Nansemond River High School field hockey: She produced three goals and two assists to help fuel the Lady Warriors’ 10-0 win against host Indian River High School on Monday. Despite the 5-3 home loss to Hickory High School on Thursday, she was still productive against the elite Lady Hawks, contributing a goal and an assist to the contest.
Stasha Waterfield, senior for Lakeland High School field hockey: She supplied a goal in the Lady Cavaliers’ 6-0 home victory against Deep Creek High School on Monday, then she was pivotal in helping her team defeat host Great Bridge High School in a shootout on Thursday. Because of a goalie-caused foul, she was able to shoot twice during the shootout, scoring both times. Her team won the shootout 3-1.
