Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Quadarius Boyd, senior for King’s Fork High School football: He had two interceptions in the Bulldogs’ 24-17 season-opening road victory against Smithfield High School on Friday night, the second of which secured the win, preventing a possible overtime session. He also was productive on offense, with five carries for 47 yards and one catch for 23 yards.
- Lindsay Knierbein, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball: She had an outstanding all-around match in contributing to the Lady Saints’ 3-0 win against visiting Western Branch High School on Tuesday to open the season. Offensively, she had eight kills, and her team scored 10 points on her serve, and defensively, she registered 15 digs.
- Demetrius Stitmon, senior for Nansemond River High School football: He contributed to the Warriors’ 53-7 season-opening blowout of Menchville High School on Friday evening with a smothering defensive performance. Adjusting well to a shift from linebacker to defensive end, he recorded three of his team’s seven sacks and was in on four tackles for loss.
