The Nansemond River High School field hockey team made its home-opener a crowd-pleaser, routing Deep Creek High School 9-0.
Previous games against the Lady Hornets have proven to be closer than the Lady Warriors expected.
“It was nice having a bigger victory this year,” NR coach Ali Mowry said.
She continues to be happy with her team’s passing. “They’re really playing unselfishly right now,” she said.
Sophomore Ashlyn Rogers recorded a hat trick, with two unassisted goals and one assisted by freshman Sarah Rhiel. Rogers also had an assist on a goal by Rhiel.
Rhiel finished the game with a goal and two assists, the other coming on a score by freshman Allison Fischer.
Senior Jaclyn Mounie had two goals, assisted by junior Mackenzie Roach and senior Avanna Williams, respectively, and Mounie assisted a goal by junior Ariana Samuel, who also had two goals.
Samuel’s other goal was assisted by senior Claire Janek.
The game ended 15 minutes early due to the mercy rule.
Nansemond River (2-0) visits Indian River High School on Monday.
