Vernon LeRoy Bradley

Vernon LeRoy Bradley, 65, of 1601 Freeney Ave., Suffolk, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Jesse Bradley and Annie Mae Bradley.

He was a 1968 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, and he attended Paul D. Camp Community College. Vernon received a certificate for automotive repair from P.D. Pruden Vo-Tech. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 32 years. He was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church, where he was a member of the security ministry.

Vernon was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, employed at the Suffolk Fire Department and Newport News Shipyard, football coach with Parks and Recreation as a teenager, football coach of Pop Warner for more than 30 years and served as president of Suffolk Steelers football association, member of DAV and East Suffolk Federated Civic League.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rhonda LaVerne Bradley; daughters, Tiffany White, LaBrea Allen and LaShonda Wright, all of Suffolk; sons, Wenzell Jordan, Terry Allen, Shawn Allen, Darrin Allen (Marquisha), all of Suffolk, and Dion Allen (Crystal), of Raleigh, N.C.;  sisters, Georgia Rountree (Julius), of Portsmouth, Zenobia Bradley and Gerald Faulk (Robert), both of Suffolk; brothers, Carroll Bradley (Faye), of Chester, and Alton Bradley (Monica), of Portsmouth; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; aunts, Julia Bradley, of Suffolk, and Leola Eley, of Hampton; cousins, Melvin Miles, Anna Jackson, of Baltimore, Md.; sister-in-law, Denise Johnson, of Fredericksburg; special friends, David Baker (Jennifer), of Suffolk, and John Allen (Anne); other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Christian Church, officiated by Bishop Carlton R. Upton. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Crocker Funeral Home. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
