Two people were airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a single-vehicle accident Friday morning.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to a city press release. It happened about 9:09 a.m. in the 9900 block of Gates Road, near the Southampton County line.
Firefighters had to extricate the adult female driver and an adult male in the backseat. She was airlifted by Life Evac, and he was airlifted by Nightingale. Injuries to both were not considered life-threatening.
Another female passenger was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, and a fourth passenger, a male, refused treatment.
The Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department and Franklin Fire Department assisted with medic units, and Carrsville also provided a landing zone for the helicopters, according to a city press release.
A portion of South Quay Road and Gates Road were closed until about 10:45 a.m., according to the press release. The driver, Delia Joyce, of Franklin, was issued a summons for reckless driving — failure to maintain control.
