Edward Stuart Kirkpatrick

Edward Stuart Kirkpatrick, 89, passed away on July 13, 2015, at the Hospice House in Paradise, Calif. Born on Jan. 9, 1926, in Richmond, he was the son of the late Samuel Paisley Kirkpatrick and the late Naomi Felton Kirkpatrick. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marion Morgan Kirkpatrick, and his brother, James Kirkpatrick.
Stuart was raised in Suffolk and served in the Army Air Corps after high school. He earned a master’s degree in engineering from Georgia Tech in 1952, where he was a member of the Chi Epsilon Honor Society and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Stuart worked as a civil engineer and spent most of his career as senior vice president for Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp/US Silica, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Upon retirement, he and his wife relocated to Greenville, N.C., where they enjoyed many years together. For the past four years, he was lovingly cared for at Prestige Assisted Living, in Chico, Calif., close to family.
Stuart held officer positions in the American Society of Civil Engineers and Kiwanis Club. He served on the Board of Regents for the School of Engineering at West Virginia University and was active in his church community.
Stuart loved spending time with his family and friends and always had a great story to tell.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Gersch and husband, Mark, of Chico, Calif.; sons, Douglas Kirkpatrick and wife, Asami, of Tacoma Park, Md., and Craig Kirkpatrick and wife, Debra, of Knoxville, Md.; grandchildren, Eric and Megan Kirkpatrick, and Andrew Gersch; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be conducted Thursday, July 23, at 1 p.m., in Bidwell Presbyterian Church, Chico. A graveside committal service will be held in Suffolk at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Thursday, July 30, at 12:30 p.m.
