Alice M. Grieder

Alice Marie (Zurcher) Grieder, 97, of Suffolk, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence at Lake Prince Woods on June 10, 2015.

She was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Currie) Zurcher.

Pre-deceased by her husband of 40 years, Harold C. Grieder, she was a resident of Fair Lawn, N.J., for 52 years. While living in Fair Lawn, she was a longtime employee of Loehmann’s Department Store in Paramus.

She had been a resident at Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk for the past 12 years.

She is survived by her two daughters; Diane M. Grieder and husband, Marion Grigg, of Suffolk; and Gail A. Hill and husband, Steele Hill, of Columbia, Md.

Survivors also include six grandchildren; Parris M. Grieder, of Washington, D.C., and Alyssa K. Grigg, of Richmond; Bray M. Hill, of Washington, D.C., and Bradley S. Hill, of Columbia, Md.; Andrew S. Hill and wife, Kenna, of Glen Burnie, Md.; and Jennifer (Hill) Wolford and husband, Tyler, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Lake Prince Woods and Gentiva Hospice for the loving care given to Alice these past years.

A memorial service will take place in the Portsmouth Room at Lake Prince Woods on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 3 p.m., with a reception to immediately follow. Private burial will be in the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434, is serving the family.
