NFL quarterback Michael Vick will be playing golf in Suffolk this June for a good cause, and he wants you to join him.

He will be returning to Hampton Roads where he grew up to host the second annual Mike Vick Weekend on June 19-21.

The weekend will include four events held in different locations in Hampton Roads, ending with a celebrity golf tournament on June 21 at the Riverfront Golf Club, 5200 River Club Drive.

“I chose the location for the golf tournament because that’s my home course, that’s where I play, I’m a member there,” Vick said. “It’s just a great golf course, great scenery, fast greens and it’s very challenging.”

Proceeds from the Mike Vick Weekend will go to the Team Vick Foundation.

“What we try to do is figure out what’s the best opportunity within the state of Virginia or within our community where we can provide for inner-city youth or not just the youth, but people in general,” Vick said. “And that money goes to our food giveaway that we have every Thanksgiving, it goes to our Christmas giveaway that we have every Christmas at the Boys and Girls Club, and those Boys and Girls Clubs always vary.”

In some instances, money has gone to help people outside of Virginia, too, like when funds were sent to support the Team Vick football field in Philadelphia, Pa.

But Vick communicated a desire to make an impact in Hampton Roads soon.

“I want to do something monumental in the state of Virginia, in the seven cities, at some point in the next couple years,” Vick said. “So the fundraising money is used for the greater good of the society that I grew up in and to helping the kids and the people in our community believe and know that there’s people out there who care about them.”

Mike Vick Weekend will begin on June 19 with a 007-themed black tie gala at the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News.

The next morning, a mini football camp for ages 6-17 will take place at John B. Todd Stadium in Newport News, with NFL players, athletes and entertainers helping out.

The action moves to Hampton University that afternoon for a celebrity softball game.

On Sunday, check-in for the golf tournament begins at 11 a.m. and the tourney will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The cost for an individual golfer to participate this year is $150, and for a foursome it is $500.
