To the editor:

This past weekend, I was on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my family.

While there, I happened to pick up a copy of the local newspaper, The North Beach Sun. In it, there was an article regarding the plans the town of Nags Head has for the old Dowdy’s Amusement Park site, which has sat vacant since 2005.

The town commissioners have approved a plan for the property that includes an events plaza, gardens, a multi-use area, playing fields and a sports court.

It’s a great example of the forward thinking being done by the Nags Head Town Council, and it preserves property for a better, higher purpose than just 
turning it over to a developer for commercial development.

I have since sent a link to the article to the mayor of Suffolk and each City Council member, asking them to review and consider the possibilities of what could be an outstanding asset to the city.
