Q: What is being built by the old Lowe’s on Godwin Boulevard? — J.K.
A: The building will be a new freestanding Goodwill store to replace the North Main Street store in a shopping center, according to Goodwill community relations manager Danielle Cronin.
The new building — which will be leased — will provide more than 2,000 additional square feet from the current location, Cronin said. It will also afford more flexibility in how the store is laid out.
“We want it to be a convenient experience for the donor,” Cronin said. “At the current location, the back part of the store area is a real challenge for donating. It’s not impossible, but this will provide a much better layout.”
The new store will be about 15,400 square feet. It also will provide a larger sales floor and more space for work training for people with disabilities and those currently receiving public benefits, just two of the many programs Goodwill uses to help folks get back on their feet.
“We need to make space for our ability to expand our mission programs within stores,” Cronin said.
The new building will include a drive-up donation center and will be open seven days a week, Cronin added.
