To the editor:
The Creekside Elementary PTA would like to invite all Suffolk Public School teachers and parents to the Suffolk City Council meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the new city hall on West Washington Street.
The main topic to discuss is the operating and capital budget for the School Board. At stake are teacher salary increases. There was a study done by an independent company early in the fall to determine the salaries of Suffolk public school teachers and how they measure up to other school districts in the area.
The study revealed that Suffolk’s teachers’ salaries are much lower, and the shortfall is in the range of $3 million to $4 million. Last year, Suffolk lost more than 100 teachers to surrounding districts for this reason. We are asking you to support our schools and teachers by being present at this meeting. Our united front allows our voices to be heard to keep students successful.
After all, the students we teach become our future leaders.
