Teen Summit planned

It’s still more than four months away, but the 2015 Suffolk Teen Summit already is accepting registrations, so be sure to get yours in soon.
Presented by the Suffolk Department of Parks and Recreation, the event serves as an expansion of a variety of prevention activities and programs that are part of the Suffolk Initiative on Youth Crime Prevention Plan.
This year’s theme is “Respect.” Young people ages 11 to 17, along with parents and adults that work with youth, are encouraged to participate in interactive sessions with topics like health and wellness, self esteem and goal setting.
On Friday, Aug. 28, there will be a block party kickoff at King’s Fork Middle School from 7 to 10 p.m., including music, fun and giveaways.
The Teen Summit will take place the following day, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.
Register by Aug. 7 to receive a free event T-shirt. The event is free and open to the public.
