It’s fundraising season in Suffolk

It’s that time of year when the weather is getting warmer, which makes it a perfect time for organizations to fundraise with outdoor events such as walks.
Within the next month alone, at least five organizations will be holding local events that offer a perfect way to get some fresh air after the long winter and support a good cause.
- Oasis Social Ministries in Portsmouth will hold its Walk for Hunger on April 18.
- The American Diabetes Association will hold its Tour de Cure on April 25.
- The March of Dimes will hold its March for Babies on April 25.
- The Suffolk Humane Society will hold its Mutt Strut on May 3.
- The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will take place on May 16.
Fighting hunger, diabetes and cancer and supporting babies and animals are all noble causes. They needn’t compete with one another for support (although the Tour de Cure and March for Babies will be competing for attendees, being on the same date and time) Many people in Suffolk will probably be at more than one of these events, working for causes that inspire passion in them.
You can support them, too. If you can’t make it happen financially, you can give of your time. You can post the fundraising links on your social media pages. You can cheer on people you know who are participating.
It would be well nigh impossible to find someone in Suffolk who hasn’t been affected by diabetes or cancer. Many of us have family and friends who have endured premature birth, birth defects and their aftermath. You never know who that you know isn’t sure where his or her next meal is coming from. And who doesn’t love animals?
The News-Herald has been running and will be running plenty of stories about these upcoming events, so you will have plenty of opportunity to learn more about how you can help. Getting involved will not only help the cause but also help you, too. It’s a chance to get some exercise, make new friends and make a difference.
