Nansemond River High School enjoyed the most success out of the Suffolk schools at the Virginia High School League Group 4A state indoor track and field championships earlier this week, but Lakeland and King’s Fork high schools gave the city good representation, as well.

Lakeland had five top-eight finishes, and its boys’ team generated 12 points to finish tied for 15th out of 37 teams to score.

Placing the highest for Lakeland was its boys’ 4×200-meter relay team, which took fourth with a season-best time of 1:34.08. The team featured senior Jordan Stokley, juniors Ja’Len Baker and JaJuan Walker and sophomore Alajuwun Langston.

Baker was also Lakeland’s top finisher in open events, taking fifth in the 300-meter dash with a 36.43-second time.

King’s Fork had two top-eight finishes, and its girls’ team tallied eight points to finish in a three-way tie for 15th out of 30 teams to score.

Lady Bulldogs senior Hannah Hinson placed the highest for her school, taking third in the shot put with a throw of 37-feet-8-inches. It tied her best throw of the season.

King’s Fork also produced a relay in the top eight as the girls’ 4×200-meter relay team finished in one minute and 48.38 seconds to place seventh. The team included senior Courtney Ricks, junior Rayona Tyler, sophomore Jasmine Watson and freshman Kaia Young.
