I’m 31 years old, and I have finally concluded that it’s not my job to fight. I’ve learned that those who choose to fight must face the reality that chances are they’re fighting a battle that they in their own strength have already lost. But they fight, as if fighting is going to bring it back.

I now understand why the Apostle Paul instructed young Timothy that in this world we are only to fight one type of fight. This one fight is the only fight that will ensure victory. No, it’s not to fight for your health. It’s not to fight for your marriage. It’s not to fight for the affirmation of others.

We are instructed by the inspired word of God to fight only the “good fight of faith.”

It’s good, because it’s the only fight in which we don’t have to swing, but just stand. It’s good, because it’s already fixed. It’s good, because all that is required of us is to stay in the ring.

There are only a few boxers who throughout their entire career maintained the same trainer and the same manager. Others have changed managers, only to learn that those they thought were in their corner had a different agenda. But that’s OK.

Those in the arena will come and go, and those who cheered for you during one battle may easily cheer for your opponent if it’s going to benefit them in the next battle you face. Regardless of who’s in your corner and who’s not, God has equipped you and scripture should remind you that you are still more than a conqueror.

So you must stand. Stand when it hurts and even when your vision has been attacked. Stand on the word of God, and just when they thought they’ve won, listen closely as it’s your name being called. You’ve heard the song, and swayed to the melody, now claim it for yourself. You are a conqueror.
