Suffolk police are investigating a body found in a lake near a Department of Defense site on Monday afternoon and are asking for help identifying the man.
The lake is located between Burbage Drive and College Drive, city spokesman Tim Kelley said in a press release. A Department of Defense employee noticed the body in the water and contacted security, which contacted Suffolk police. Officers arrived on the scene around 5 p.m.
The Suffolk police dive team responded and confirmed the body was that of an unidentified black male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, in his 20s.
Police still are investigating, Kelley said. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man, or what happened to him, can call Suffolk police at the non-emergency number, 923-2350, option 0. They also can call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP, submit a tip online at www.suffolkva.us/crimelinetips, or send a text message to “CRIMES” (274637) with the keyword “SPDVATIP.” Tipsters never have to give their names or appear in court and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
