Snow lengthens school days

To make up for snow days, Suffolk Public Schools will extend the school day by 15 minutes for the remainder of the school year, beginning next Monday.
All city public schools and grade levels will add the 15 minutes, with bell schedules adjusted to distribute the extra time throughout all class periods, district spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw stated. Changes to the testing calendar will also be made.
The plan will make up for the three days lost last week. As already announced, four days lost during the previous week will be caught up by changing March 19 and April 3 from half to full days, and June 10-12, which were early dismissal days due to middle and high school exams, to full days for elementary students only.
The school day still begins at the same time. The new schedule is:
Middle schools: 7:25 a.m. – 2:15 p.m.
High schools: 8:25 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Elementary “A”: 9:20 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.
Elementary “B”: 9:35 a.m. – 4:05 p.m.
