Robert W. Drew Sr.

Robert W. “Bob” Drew Sr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

He was born in Providence, R.I., on June 28, 1923, to the late Frank and Flora Drew. He was also predeceased by his wife, Mary Nell Drew and son, Terry Drew.

Bob joined the Navy after graduation from North Providence High. The Navy sent him to Wentworth Institute, and from there he requested active duty and was assigned to the carrier U.SS. Ticonderoga, where he achieved the rank of chief machinist.

Bob owned and managed Drew Progressive Cleaners in Suffolk for more than 38 years and was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church, where he loved to sing in the choir. Bob was also a member of VFW Post 2582 and past member of the Cosmopolitan Club and the American Legion.

He is survived by his children, Rita (Tommy) Queen, Robert “Bobby” (Suzanne) Drew Jr., Kathy (Barry) Brooks and Roxanne (Doug) Dorman; grandchildren, Thomas (Jill) Queen, Bruce Queen, Jonathan Queen, Bruce (Trisha) Drew, Jeb Drew, Zachary Drew, Kyle Drew, Monica Drew, and Bobby Drew; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at R.W. Baker Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, with Dr. Bob Pipkin officiating. Burial will be at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
