King’s Fork wide receiver Camryn Little and defensive back Kane Miskel made their formal college commitments on Wednesday and later commemorated the occasion with a ceremony including family, friends and coaches at King’s Fork High School.

Bulldogs coach Joe Jones was pleased to help them announce their decisions, as Little chose the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and Miskel formalized his commitment to Old Dominion University.

“That’s the best part of coaching football, more than winning games and anything else,” Jones said of the ceremony. “We always tell the guys, use the sports as much as you can to help you get to school. The sky’s the limit. Both those guys have a great upside, and I think they’re going to do real well at their respective schools.”

Little received a partial athletic scholarship from U.Va.-Wise, with financial aid helping take care of the rest.

“It’s a great thing to know that my parents don’t have to pay for anything, that I’m getting the education for free, and I’m very thankful for it,” Little said.

His father, Tim Little, underscored the significance of his son’s achievement. “We’ve talked about it for a very long time, and it’s been a dream for both us, and now the day is here where it’s actually came true,” he said.

The elder Little said, “The dream started when Camryn first came to King’s Fork and we went to orientation in the PE class and saw Coach Jones, and he asked Camryn was he interested in playing football.”

Camryn Little, who will major in computer science, made his school selection after considering other schools, including Averett University and Shenandoah University.

“My dreams are coming true,” Miskel said of signing with ODU on a full scholarship. “I’m just living it. I’m doing what I can to keep fulfilling my dreams. I’m just trying to be a good role model for my brothers.”
