Isle of Wight County officials on Wednesday revealed the identity of a woman whose skeletal remains were found in a wooded area in Carrsville on Nov. 7.
Through DNA testing, the body was identified as Stacey Lynn Holste, also known as Stacey Virgili, according to a news release from the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office. The identification was made by the medical examiner.
The cause of death was determined to be suicide, according to the release. The medical examiner said she had been dead “for an extended period of time,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lisa Martin said.
Holste was originally reported missing in September 2009, when she was 36 years old. At that time, she was under investigation and considered a fugitive with multiple arrest warrants on file for credit card fraud, the release stated.
The area was searched when she was reported missing, the release stated. It was believed at that time that she had fled the area due to the ongoing investigation.
