A Suffolk man was sent to the hospital after getting hit by a vehicle while trying to cross Carolina Road in a wheelchair.

The accident happened about 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Carolina Road, city spokesman Tim Kelley said. The man was reportedly trying to cross the road when he was clipped by a vehicle that had tried to avoid the man.

He was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with minor injuries and was cited for the incident, Kelley said.
