James Barnes

James B. Barnes, of the 2000 block of Meadow Country Road, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and son of the late James H. and Melba B. Brown. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Paula D. Barnes.
He attended the Pender County Schools and Norfolk State University. He retired from NCCTAMSLANT Fleet after 42 years of service.
He leaves to cherish lasting and fond memories, his wife, Sarah P. Barnes, of the home; one daughter, Scherrie N. McCutchen, of Chesapeake; four sisters, LaVerne Brown, Jamellah Brown Brown, of Norfolk, Deborah Dozier, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Velma McCoy (Larry), of Currie, N.C.; one grandchild, Gabrielle McCutchen, of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A service of tribute will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Mike Sessoms. The interment will follow at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk.
