To the editor:

What a unique privilege it was on Saturday to be with the thousands of those who gathered for the wreath laying service at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.

Retired U.S. Navy Adm. John Harvey recounted without notes the history of events some of us cannot forget.

Placing the beautiful wreaths on the front of our loved one’s stone marker made the service very meaningful. The massive blocks of memorial stones befitting a military style, and the surrounding backdrop of trees, all blend to enclose the area with serenity.

Hearing “Taps” at the end brought a few tears and thanks for the blessings we enjoy in this country because of our military.

A special thanks to Betty Hand and the many others for their work and the great job of organizing and planning this event.
