A student was served with juvenile petitions after having been discovered to be in possession of a knife at King’s Fork High School on Thursday, officials said Friday.
A school resource officer was called to the scene because of a report that a student had a knife, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said. The knife, which measured slightly more than three inches long, was determined to be in the possession of a 17-year-old male student, Klink said.
The student reportedly did not threaten any students with the weapon. However, a verbal altercation allegedly took place that included throwing hair at another student.
Petitions have been secured for simple assault, possessing a weapon on school property and disorderly conduct, Klink said.
School division spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said the student has been suspended and is recommended for expulsion, per division policy.
