Nine people were displaced in three separate fires that kept firefighters busy on Thursday evening.
All three fires were reported within less than three hours, and none of them resulted in any injuries.
The first to be reported, at 4:17 p.m., was a residential structure fire in the 6600 block of Everets Road. The first units arrived on scene at 4:25. Firefighters from the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department found heavy smoke from the second floor of the two-story farmhouse. The fire was called under control at 5:04 p.m.
Eight people, including one child, were displaced from the residence and are being assisted by family. All occupants had evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.
At 6:01 p.m., the second fire was reported in the 200 block of Stowe drive in the Riverfront area. The first units arrived on scene at 6:12 p.m. and found an odor of smoke throughout the residence, with the fire contained behind a wall. The fire was called under control at 6:45 p.m., and no residents were displaced.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating the causes of the first two fires.
The third fire already has been ruled accidental due to unattended cooking. It was reported at 6:27 p.m. in the 6700 block of Chambers Lane in the burbage Grant neighborhood. The first units were on scene at 6:37 p.m. and found light smoke showing, with the single occupant having already evacuated.
The fire was confined to the kitchen and called under control at 6:49 p.m. The occupant was displaced and is staying with friends.
Battalion 1 units assisted Battalion 2 throughout the evening by helping to cover the North Suffolk area.
