Womanless pageant to return in March

The Nansemond River Pilot Club’s 15th annual Womanless Beauty Pageant is looking for contestants, sponsorships, silent auction donations and ticketholders for the event.
Although it’s usually held in January, the 2015 installment has been moved to March because of a number of scheduling difficulties.
“Tickets are already on sale,” said Becky Adams. “We’re just trying to get the word out so people know we’re still having it.”
Set for March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Suffolk National Guard Armory, the event will once again feature dinner by Carrabba’s before the men dressed as women start strutting their stuff.
The event raises money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life through ticket sales, silent auction bids and money placed in contestants’ buckets to vote for the people’s choice award.
The event regularly features about a dozen men dressing as women and modeling casual wear and evening wear, performing talents — often intentionally bad — and answering interview questions.
There’s also a serious element to the evening, usually a musical tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer and are still fighting the disease.
Adams said potential contestants and sponsors, as well as silent auction donors and those wishing to purchase tickets, should call her at 539-9988. Tickets are $20 each and include dinner and the show.
