Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Josh Covington, junior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He was excellent coming off the bench for the Warriors this week, with two 20-point performances. He went 8-for-14 from the field in a 63-49 Tuesday win at Grassfield High School. On Friday, his points, four assists and three steals contributed to an 88-39 win over host Great Bridge High School.
  • Deonta Knight, junior for Lakeland High School basketball: He was a leader for his team, producing double-doubles in both of its victories this week. On Tuesday, he had 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with two assists in a 55-36 home win over Great Bridge High School. On Friday, he had 22 points and 15 rebounds during a 70-52 road win at Indian River High School.
  • Caroline Hogg, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: She had a sensational first week of the season, beating her career high twice. In Friday’s season-opening home win, she scored a career-best 25 points to go with six rebounds and three blocks. She topped that on Saturday with 29 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and two steals in a 55-49 home win over Virginia Episcopal School.
