The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ and boys’ swimming teams opened up the 2014-15 season with a taste of victory and defeat. Each achieved a win against Cape Henry Collegiate School and each experienced a loss against Walsingham Academy on Friday during a double dual at YMCA Camp Arrowhead.
“Considering we were missing probably about 10 swimmers, I thought they did a great job and their times were better than I expected,” NSA coach Karen Norman said. “They worked really hard, and I was very pleased with how we did.”
The girls’ won 76-48 against Cape Henry, while the boys won 71-65. Against Walsingham, the girls lost 86-69 and the boys fell 82-70.
The girls’ 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams for Nansemond-Suffolk both qualified for states. Making up those teams are freshmen Madi Wilson, Tori Psimas and Lauren Podruchny and senior Taylor Berard.
Saints junior David Forman was a standout for the boys, finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly.
Nansemond-Suffolk hosts Greenbrier Christian Academy, Norfolk Christian School and Peninsula Catholic High School on Thursday.
