King’s Fork High School will introduce its 2014-15 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and its cheerleaders to the public as part of the King’s Fork Bulldog Madness event on Saturday starting at 7 p.m. in the King’s Fork gymnasium.
The night will feature a variety of basketball-oriented events.
Former King’s Fork basketball star Sugar Rodgers will be recognized for her ascent to the professional level as a player in the WNBA. She was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in April 2013 and traded to the New York Liberty about a year later. She saw a significant increase in her playing time this past season.
The event will also feature several competitions, including a dunk contest, a three-point contest and a season pass game. In the latter, participants will have the opportunity to win a season pass if they make a layup, free throw, three-pointer and half-court shot in 30 seconds.
There will be a Dress Like a Bulldog game for participants 5 years and under. Laid out down the length of the basketball floor will be King’s Fork basketball gear. The youth must quickly don the clothes as he or she crosses the court from one baseline to the other and then make a return trip with a ball.
There will also be a skills contest. Teams of three people — a female basketball player, a male basketball player and a King’s Fork faculty member — will look to make baskets from various distances within a 90-second window.
During the evening, King’s Fork’s football and volleyball teams will be recognized for their success, and there will be boys’ and girls’ basketball inter-squad scrimmages.
The price of admission for adults will be $4, but it will be reduced to $2 for those who bring a canned food donation to help someone in need. The price for children 5 and under will be $2, but reduced to $1 for those who bring a can of food.
