Suffolk Christian Academy’s boys’ basketball team got off to a rough start Tuesday, as visiting Isle of Wight Academy won the first game of the Knights’ season, 66-36.
Terry Leiter, the new Knights coach, said his players had first-game jitters that resulted in early missed passes and overthrown balls, but they started settling down eventually and played pretty well by the end of the game.
He highlighted a few players in particular for good play, including senior shooting guard Nathan Leiter, junior forward Steven Effler and junior point guard Michael Cornette, who was good on defense.
Junior forward Bryce Casey was strong for the Chargers, contributing 21 points.
On Friday, Suffolk Christian (0-1) will begin play in the SCA Invitational Tip-Off Tournament.
