Carroll Hunter Brinkley

Carroll Hunter Brinkley, 72, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Oct. 24, 2014. He was born in Suffolk, the son of Irene H. Brinkley and the late C. Wesley Brinkley. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Joyce Dunkley Brinkley; three children, his son, Mark H. Brinkley and his wife, Blair M. Brinkley; his daughter, Kimberly B. Thompson and her husband, Glenn A. Thompson; his daughter, Amanda W. Reeder and her husband, Major J. Michael Reeder; seven grandchildren, M. Hunter Brinkley II, Olivia T. Thompson, Anne Thomas Brinkley, Emma G. Thompson, Austin M. Reeder, Abigail V. Reeder and Jacob A. Reeder; and three sisters, Judith B. Fischer, Susan B. Rawls, and her husband, Dr. Charles H. Rawls Jr., and Loretta B. Stepka and her husband, Thomas S. Stepka.

Mr. Brinkley was CEO and past president of C.W. Brinkley Inc. in Suffolk for more than 40 years. He not only took pride in his business but also truly relished the connection with people he made during his time in construction. He served as a member of the board of trustees of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy for 10 years and as a board member of BB&T bank for 15 years. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church. He was also a member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge and was a past president and member of the Cypress Chapel Ruritan Club.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Suffolk Christian Church with the Rev. Michael D. Halley and the Rev. Dr. Willis I. Dowling officiating. Burial will be at Holly Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in his memory. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
