Virginia Hill, 69, was murdered Saturday after several individuals entered her Walnut Hill Estates homes and asked where the safe was located, a police affidavit filed Tuesday reveals.
Suffolk dispatchers received an emergency call from the victim’s daughter, Julina Hill, about 5:28 a.m., according to the document filed in Suffolk Circuit Court.
Julina Hill said “several subjects (were) inside her residence demanding her mother … tell them where the safe was located.”
Over the phone, dispatch heard a gunshot, then a noise that sounded like Virginia Hill falling.
Next, according to the affidavit, Julina Hill told dispatchers the suspects ran away.
Arriving on the scene, police found Virginia Hill suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported by emergency medical services to Sentara Obici Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The affidavit lists a variety of items seized by police from the home on Collier Crescent, where neighbors Saturday described Virginia Hill as someone who looked after neighbors’ homes when they were away. Police were also authorized to search two vehicles.
Listed was a purse containing $692, plus another $45 in loose currency, as well as two safes, two knives, a cinder block, a glass sample and two pieces of potato.
Among other items seized were two game consoles, five laptops, a notebook, two thumb drives and three cellphones.
Police searched the premises within 3-½ hours of the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Virginia Hill was a retired missing children investigator with Philadelphia Police Department.
According to people who knew her, she was proud of her work solving some of Philadelphia’s toughest cases, for which she received several honors.
