Hubert M. Abbott

SUFFOLK — Hubert M. Abbott, 76, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Hubert and Pearl Abbott of Norfolk.

He was a member of Churchland Assembly of God. He was in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Hubert was a longshoreman and was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association, Local 970 for 32 years.

Hubert leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Beckie J. Abbott. He also leaves behind his daughter, Martha Griffin (Troy), of Suffolk; grandsons, Hayden and Nicholas Griffin, of Suffolk; sister, Zelda Lang (Robert “Red”); brother, Oscar Abbott (Ellen); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by Pastor Larry O’Brien. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an organization of your choice.
