Evelyn Malene Jones Parker, 88, beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully departed this life Sept. 11, 2014.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Royce Wilson Parker; her siblings, Marvis Jones, Bradford Jones and Iva White; and great-grandchild Reid Parker. She is survived by her devoted children, Rickey Parker and wife, Bettye, of Danville, Cathy Stancell and husband, Wayne, of Suffolk, Phillip Parker, of Suffolk, Amy Callis and husband, Paul, of Suffolk; four grandchildren, including David Parker and wife, Erin, of Raleigh, N.C., Suzanne Kawasaki and husband, Kevin, of Suffolk, Katie Wroten and husband, Thomas, of Gates County, N.C., and Amanda Warren, of Suffolk; four great-grandchildren including Mia and Luke Kawasaki, of Suffolk, Blake Parker, of Raleigh, N.C., and Haley Wroten, of Gates County, N.C.
Malene was the daughter of Gatling and Amanda Jones of Gates County, N.C. She was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church Main Street in the Eunice Sunday school class. Malene was a well-loved and widely known salesperson at Russell & Holmes shoe store on Main Street in Suffolk, where she faithfully served the public for 41 years. She will always be remembered for her fearless devotion to family, her great love of all things that grew in God’s earth, especially her camellias and azaleas, and her delicious homemade meals.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Care nursing home in Suffolk for their care and compassion during the three and a half years she lived in their facility in addition to Rosa Willie and Cynthia Lewis, aides who served her faithfully.
The family will receive friends at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. A funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Parr Funeral Home with burial following in Holly Lawn Cemetery on Main Street in Suffolk. The family is accepting visitors at the home of Cathy and Wayne Stancell. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Bethlehem Christian Church, or the Arthritis Foundation.
