Shrimp Feast ticket exchange announced

Leaders of the Suffolk Ruritan Club have announced plans for the ticket exchange they’ll conduct for people who could not make it to last year’s rained-out event.
“We’re trying to make sure the public knows where to get them,” said E.C. Harris, treasurer of the Suffolk Ruritan Club and co-chairman of the event with Jimmy Franks.
After severe thunderstorms rolled through the area last year, the Shrimp Feast site at last year’s Peanut Fest was closed down, and eventually police closed the road leading to the airport, which was flooded coming from both directions.
Folks who made it to the airport before the road was closed were able to get takeout plates. But for those who couldn’t get there, the club will give them tickets for this year’s event free of charge.
People should bring their complete blue ticket from last year’s event to Line-X, 2432 Pruden Blvd., during business hours during the month of September for a new ticket to this year’s event, which will be held Oct. 9.
Harris said no ticket exchanges will be granted at the gate.
“All of this money goes back into the community,” Suffolk Ruritan member Jimmy Franks said. Almost $1.5 million from the Shrimp Feast has been donated in the last 35 years.
Harris noted folks who got carry-out plates last year got a pretty good deal in food, although they didn’t get alcohol and entertainment.
“We almost went through as much food as we usually do,” Harris said, which included 2,500 pounds of shrimp.
This year’s event will feature The Deloreans as entertainment and will run from 3 to 7 p.m. Tickets for those not exchanging are $30 in advance with free parking, or $40 at the gate. Those buying at the gate will have to pay $10 to park, and limited quantities of gate tickets are available, so advance purchase is encouraged.
