Host families needed

A Suffolk-based field manager for student exchange program Foreign Links Around the Globe says she could use up to 11 more host families for the upcoming school year.

Four international students are currently being placed at Nansemond River High School, according to Cindy Fegley, and openings are available to be filled at Lakeland and King’s Fork high schools, with an Aug. 15 enrollment deadline.

Students are either on Department of State scholarships, or program fees — which include things like airfares, health insurance and spending money — are self-funded, Fegley wrote in an email.

Volunteer hosts provide students with three daily meals, a bed of their own — which can be in a room shared with a child of the same gender and generally within five years of the same age — and “the support and supervision of a loving family,” Fegley stated.
