Homearama ‘in the middle of everything’

The Tidewater Builders Association’s fall Homearama will return to Suffolk this year, and the show’s chairman is excited about everything the area has to offer.
“If you look at all the statistics, Suffolk is the fastest-growing city,” said Sam Cohen, chairman for this year’s show. “A lot of businesses are relocating there. The corridor right there is one of the nicest corridors in Suffolk. You have everything there.”
The show will take place at The Waterfront at Parkside on three consecutive four-day weekends from Oct. 17 to Nov. 3. Seven homes will be on display, ranging from 3,000 to 3,300 square feet with prices ranging from $470,000 to $540,000.
Eric Sasser, president of the Tidewater Builders Association, said the North Suffolk area is a natural choice because it’s centrally located.
“The market right there in general is pretty much in the center of things,” he said. “If you look at a map, it’s in the middle of everything.”
Sasser added the neighborhood off Bennetts Creek Park Road already has many amenities that the homes’ eventual owners will find attractive.
“It’s on deep water,” he said. “It’s what I would consider affordable deep water by comparison to other areas. It is a planned community that has amenities. It has a dog park. It has a pool. It has a clubhouse that we built, with a full 24-hour fitness center in it.”
He also noted Bennett’s Creek Park and its features not too far away, as well as a public library, neighborhood school and recreation center under renovation.
Cohen and Sasser said the city has been supportive of the event.
“The city has welcomed us with open arms,” Cohen said. “I can’t recall a city being so excited about Homearama coming to their city. They’re all very excited about the awareness we’re going to bring to Suffolk with our show.”
“The city has been very enthusiastic and willing to help,” Sasser said.
Cohen also said people in the community are getting pumped up for the show. Several people walk by each morning to check on the progress of the houses, he said.
Each weekend of the show will have a different theme.
- Oct. 17-20: “Suffolk Harvest”
- Oct. 24-27: “Beer, Brats and Boats”
- Oct. 31 to Nov. 3: “Salute to the Military”
