The following Virginia Military Institute cadets from the area were among the 317 cadets who graduated from the college in May.

• Matthew D. Schmincke of Smithfield received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies. Cadet Schmincke’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Schmincke Jr.
• Chase C. Montambo of Suffolk received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. Graduating honors include Marine Corps Commission. Cadet Montambo’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Scott J. Montambo.
